Do you have a unique project idea for the Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) Capstone Course? This website will guide you on how best to submit your idea.
How to Submit a Project
Please fill out details below to continue to the next step of filling out details of your project. The information you submit will be reviewed and considered as final Capstone projects in the winter semester.*
*Please note that not all projects will be a fit for the course and may not be used, or may require revisions.
Project Criteria
1. Must solve an engineering problem
2. Requires research of the problem and surrounding industry
3. Must have an industry advisor willing to offer the group feedback on an on-going basis.
Schedule
Any proposals submitted before November 1 will be reviewed and considered as final capstone projects in the winter semester of the current academic year beginning in January.
Any proposals submitted after November 1 will be reviewed for the following academic year.*
A complete list of projects will be presented to students. Students will choose their top 3 project topics. Their instructors will then assign students to project groups. Note: We will be in contact if your project has been chosen.
Next steps:
Capstone classes begin, concept development, detail design, and report writing.
Final Deliverable:
Final industry presentations, report complete.
Industry Client Commitment
2 hours/week answering emails, or meeting with students in person.
Face to face meetings are typically bi-weekly (depending on complexity of the project).
What you can expect from students**
1. Analysis of the supplied engineering problem
2. A variety of design concepts to solve engineering problem
3. CAD drawings of proposed new design.
4. A final technical report summarizing findings.
5. Depending on size and scope may include fabrication of prototyping of project.
**Total student effort (4 students x 60 hours each)
All students will produce a 2000 word technical report on your project. These are typically well-researched and well-written and can be great resources to further your project. However, please be advised that although output is typically high-quality, it is possible some student groups may not produce the same result.***
***Please note: The sponsor of the project will be responsible for any intellectual property and nondisclosure agreements
