The Roy Hennessy Award for Excellence in Broadcasting

Roy was a fixture in Vancouver area radio for twenty years, followed by a distinguished broadcast career in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg and Toronto. Roy passed away in June of this year, and our group of almost 300 Vancouver area radio and TV folks (along with some of our friends in Calgary radio) would like to set up a scholarship in Roy's name to recognize deserving SAIT Broadcast students.

Roy was only in Calgary for two years, 1986 and 1987 at CISS/CHFM, but he made a distinct impression just like he did in the other markets he worked in, including CKLG Vancouver (1964-1979), CFOX Vancouver (1979-1982), CHED Edmonton (1982-1984), CKY/CITI Winnipeg (1984-1986), CISS/CHFM Calgary (1986-1987), CFRB Toronto (1991/1996), CHHR Vancouver (2008-2010). Roy was also a former member of the BBM Radio Executive, past President of The Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent On Record (FACTOR), and a former member of Board of Directors, Western Association of Broadcasters (WAB).

Celebrate the life of Roy Hennessy by making a gift to The Roy Hennessy Award for Excellence in Broadcasting, supporting a graduating student in radio major, who demonstrates positive attitude, leadership skills and academic achievement. Your donation is a way of honoring and remembering this outstanding member of SAIT community and making a difference.

The SAIT community is creating a fund in Roy’s name and accepting donations in his memory. Our intent is to raise $3,000 to support the memorial award for three years. In the event $20,000 or more is contributed to the award, an endowment award will be established to ensure Roy has a lasting legacy in perpetuity.

You are welcome to connect with Diane Westlake at diane.westlake@sait.ca for more information or to speak about your gift.
