SAIT mourns the loss of employee, Jim Gray
James Allan Gray, Jim to all who knew him, passed away at the end of November due to a rare inflammatory disease that led to interstitial lung disease. Jim worked at SAIT for more than 10 years and was also a graduate from SAIT’s Library Information Technology program. Jim spent many years supporting students through his work in the Reg Erhardt Library and more recently in his role as a career advisor in the Career Advancement Services office.
The highlight of Jim's day was when he could help a student ace their interview or get their dream job. Even in hospital, he’d always ask the practicum students about their plans after graduation — he was genuinely interested and invested in their success. Jim met his wife Sophy at the library in Inuvik. They made their way to Calgary and both began working at SAIT. When Jim was healthy, he and Sophy would start each day by walking to campus together. Sophy and his extended family have asked friends and family to raise a glass or read a story to celebrate Jim.
The SAIT community is creating a fund in Jim’s name and accepting donations in his memory and in recognition of his love for SAIT and SAIT students. In the coming months, Sophy will allocate the contributions to an area, award or initiative at SAIT, most meaningful to Jim. Please consider a contribution in honour of Jim.
