North Sea Energy Field School

Who we are:
We are a group of students from SAIT programs focused on the energy industry, as well as journalism students participating in a practicum.  We have the opportunity to travel to Scotland from May 3-16, 2019.

We plan to travel to Scotland to learn about the offshore energy industry.  We come from programs including:  Energy Asset Management (EAM), Petroleum Technology (PT), Bachelor of Applied Technology, Petroleum Engineering (BAPT), BBA Energy Minor (BBA), Journalism (JOURN), and Geoscience and Information Technologies (GSIT).

Why we are going:
On this trip we will visit Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.  We will also have time in Glasgow and the Shetland Islands for both cultural and educational activities.

We want to expand and contextualize our learnings about the Canadian Oil and Gas Industry to include the global industry, particularly the offshore, by traveling to Scotland. Our trip will allow us to: assess current offshore drilling practices and technologies, understand challenges faced by the North Sea energy industry, and discover how renewables are being incorporated in this oil-rich jurisdiction.

What we need:
Our goal is for each participant to raise a minimum of  $500 for our Study Abroad Tour. Your support will allow us to  learn about our industry in other parts of the world. The money that we raise will help us with the cost of flights, transportation, tours/activities, and accommodation expenses.  We are staying in shared accommodations and travelling by rail in order to keep our costs as low as possible.

This is the first time SAIT is offering this trip.  Please help us make it a success!
