Who we are:
We are the 2018 GNCTR Defending CHAMPIONS!!! Our team is consists of students working together to create an incredible toboggan to race at the 2019 Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race, held in January in Edmonton, Alberta. This competition is host to the over 20 different campuses across North America, where teams gather to compete amongst one another. As per Maclean's Magazine's 2017 ranking of the top 10 Engineering Schools in Canada, 8 of the top 10 were at competition last year, and will be returning again this year.
Coming from all corners of the campus, SAIT's team is made up of thirty students from several programs, including Civil Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, Construction Project Management, Welding Engineering Technology, Chemical Laboratory Technician, and Bachelors of Business Administration.
Throughout the semester we are combining our problem solving, communication, and project management skills to design and fabricate an innovative sled to take to the race. Every team member has contributed time and effort into making one of the best toboggans, one that will impress the judges, competitors, and industry sponsors.
Why we do this:
The only thing better than winning a championship, is defending it! We have our work cut out for us this year at the competition in Edmonton, but we are eager and up for the challenge. GNCTR is the bridge between the work we do in the classroom, and real life application. It not only gives students an opportunity to apply their classroom skills, but show them off in front of a judging panel, and many executives of corporate companies.
How can you help?
Donations from kind people like you make our dream of competing a reality. Your money will go towards toboggan materials and manufacturing, travel and accommodation expenses, and competition registration fees. With your generous support, we will be able to the defend our title as the 2018 GNCTR Champions against the top Canadian universities. Our total budget for this year is $30,200. While we are always working to reach out to industry for sponsorship, we still need your help! Our goal is to raise $12,000 through your support!
