Shared Light Project

๐ŸŒ  Borrowed Light tells the story of a blind boy and a grieving repairman who bond over a broken lamp and a shared love for the stars. Together, they rediscover wonder, connection, and the quiet power of imagination.

๐ŸŽž๏ธ What Is “Borrowed Light”?

Borrowed Light is a 10-minute student short film about grief, memory, and the unexpected ways people find each other. Through the subtle rhythms of daily life — a flickering lamp, the echo of a radio, the soft click of a repairman’s tools — the film captures the beauty of quiet resilience.

This story is told with tenderness and restraint, using visual storytelling, minimal dialogue, and a deeply cinematic eye. Shot by an advanced SAIT film crew, it reflects the emotional intimacy of *Room* with the quiet visual poetry of *The Straight Story*.

โค๏ธ Why This Film Matters

Borrowed Light is about seeing — not just with our eyes, but with our hearts. It speaks to anyone who’s lost something and is still trying to find meaning again. It’s also a project about learning, growth, and collaboration: a true student production built on passion, grit, and care.

With your help, we can bring this story to life and create something that’s both moving and beautifully crafted — a film that gives emerging artists the chance to shine.

๐Ÿ’ธ Where Your Contribution Goes

๐Ÿ“ฃ This is a living campaign page. We’ll be updating it throughout the semester with new photos, videos, and behind-the-scenes progress. You’re welcome to check back regularly or sign up for updates on our crowdfunding platform to follow our journey as it unfolds.

Your support will help fund three student-led projects from the SAIT Film & Video Production program: *Borrowed Light* (narrative short), a documentary exploring dance and culture, in the columbine community,  and a narrative-style music video, TBD.

Every dollar directly supports:
๐ŸŽฌ *Borrowed Light* – Custom neon sign design, authentic wardrobe, location rentals, and talent support

๐Ÿฉฐ *Documentary* – A choreographed performance captured on film stock to highlight motion, color, emotion, and cultural vibrancy or Columbia

๐ŸŽต *Music Video* – A stylized, high-impact short featuring performance, story, and original art direction - TBD

Our top needs include:
• Film stock and lab processing (documentary)
• Professional-level art direction
• Location rentals and transportation
• Craft services for on-camera performers only
• Licensing fees for featured music
• Contingency buffers to address real-world student production hurdles

๐Ÿงพ Tax-Deductible Donations

Your donation is eligible for a charitable tax receipt through SAIT. If you're giving on behalf of a business or organization, please use the corporate donation link provided at the top of the campaign page.
