The Future of Housing: Shaping Tomorrow's Housing

Canada's housing sector faces a growing need for solutions that can deliver more housing, at greater scale, while improving affordability, sustainability, resilience, and quality of life. Modern methods of construction, including prefabrication, modular construction, advanced manufacturing, and innovative building systems, are emerging as key tools in addressing these challenges, but their success depends on collaboration across the entire housing ecosystem.

The Future of Housing Conference brings together builders, developers, manufacturers, researchers, policymakers, utilities, housing providers, and community leaders to explore the opportunities and challenges shaping the next generation of housing. Through expert presentations, panel discussions, and collaborative dialogue, participants will examine how innovation in construction, materials, building performance, energy systems, smart building technologies, digital design and project delivery, policy, accessibility, and affordability can help accelerate housing delivery and improve housing outcomes.

More than a conference, this event is a forum for connecting the people who influence housing. By bringing together perspectives from industry, academia, government, and communities, the conference aims to foster collaboration, share practical insights, and identify pathways toward housing solutions that are scalable, resilient, and responsive to the needs of Canadians.

SAIT Truth & Reconciliation Series 2026

The SAIT Truth & Reconciliation Series brings together students, employees, and community members to engage in meaningful learning, reflection, and dialogue in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Through ceremonies, educational presentations, cultural discussions, film screenings, community celebrations, and campus activities, the series provides opportunities to deepen understanding of Indigenous histories, perspectives, and cultures while advancing reconciliation efforts across the SAIT community. Participants are invited to attend events throughout September that honour Indigenous voices, celebrate community achievements, and encourage ongoing learning and relationship-building.

Opening Ceremony & Flag Raising

Join SAIT as we officially launch the Truth & Reconciliation Series with an Opening Ceremony and Flag Raising. The event will begin with an opening prayer, followed by welcome remarks from SAIT senior leaders. This gathering offers an opportunity for the campus community to come together in reflection and recognition of the importance of truth, reconciliation, and Indigenous awareness.

Natoysopoyiis Open House

Visit Natoysopoyiis and learn more about the services, programs, and community connections that support Indigenous students at SAIT. Guests are welcome to tour the space, meet staff members, connect with the community, and enjoy light refreshments throughout the event.

I AM GITXSAN Film Screening and Virtual Q&A

Experience the award-winning documentary I AM GITXSAN, created by filmmaker H.M. Fazeli. The film shares powerful stories and perspectives from members of the Gitxsan Nation, exploring identity, culture, resilience, and community. Following the screening, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a virtual question-and-answer session with the filmmaker.

Natoysopoyiis 25th Anniversary Celebration

Celebrate 25 years of Natoysopoyiis, formerly known as Chinook Lodge, and its ongoing impact on Indigenous student success, community building, and cultural engagement at SAIT. This special anniversary event will recognize the history and achievements of the centre while honouring the people who have contributed to its success over the past quarter century.

Healing Forest Presentation

Learn about SAIT's Healing Forest initiative and the vision behind bringing a healing mini-forest to campus. Led by Sonia Perna, who has guided the project for more than a year, this presentation will explore the importance of healing forests, their connection to reconciliation, and the role natural spaces can play in fostering reflection, wellness, and community.

Two-Eyed Seeing Discussion

Join a facilitated discussion inspired by Rebecca Thomas's TEDx presentation on the concept of Two-Eyed Seeing. This approach encourages participants to bring together Indigenous and Western ways of knowing to create deeper understanding and stronger relationships. The session will explore how Two-Eyed Seeing can serve as a practical tool for reconciliation in our workplaces, communities, and everyday lives.

Orange Shirt Day March & Cupcakes

Take part in SAIT's Orange Shirt Day March as we come together to honour Survivors of residential schools and recognize the ongoing impacts of the residential school system. Participants are encouraged to wear an orange shirt or purchase one from the SAIT Bookstore before the event. Following the march, attendees are invited to enjoy cupcakes and connect with fellow participants in a spirit of reflection, solidarity, and community.

Students of SAIT’s School of Hospitality and Tourism are thrilled to announce and invite you as their guests to attend a Special Edition event celebrating Oktoberfest! Join us at The Tastemarket Canadian Kitchen on Thursday, September 17 6PM – 9PM for a student event showcasing the celebration of Oktoberfest.

Tickets are $60 + GST and include:

Welcome beverage
Reception with passed canapes and live action station
3-course seated dinner

Registration will be closed on Monday September 14th at 11:59AM NOON OR when the event is sold out.

Supper Club: Special Edition events may engage multiple classes and programs from within the School of Hospitality and Tourism to celebrate a special occasion in a unique, one-of-a-kind setting. With the guidance of instructors, students collaborate to design a food and beverage menu, select themed event décor, prepare a client presentation, and produce a special event that immerses guests in an unforgettable celebration.
